While tensions are rising in the Western sphere, many of us fail to notice what’s quietly unfolding in East Asia.
As China and the United States build #tariff walls against each other, someone else is building something very different.
Japan is quietly but decisively, rebuilding its military strength — echoing the past, but preparing for the future.

After its defeat in 1945, #japan rejected war as a sovereign right and adopted a pacifist constitution. For decades, the country relied on its alliance with the United States for security, focusing on economic growth and technological advancement.

But things have changed. China’s growing assertiveness has inevitably triggered Japanese decision-makers. Beijing’s military drills near Taiwan, aggressive naval patrols in the East and South China Seas, and territorial disputes over the Senkaku Islands have alarmed Tokyo
Over the past two years, #Tokyo has begun to reshape its defense doctrine with unexpected boldness.

In late 2022, Japan announced its largest military buildup since World War II, promising to double its defense budget by 2027. This would make Japan the world’s third-largest military spender, just behind the U.S. and China.

New investments include the development of long-range cruise missiles, modernization of the Self-Defense Forces, and even the possibility of acquiring counterstrike capabilities — a major shift from its postwar stance.

In response, Japan has tightened military cooperation not only with the United States, but also with regional partners like Australia, the UK, and the Philippines — forming a loose but strategic partnership.

Plus, the chain of militarized islands forms a modern-day shield across the Pacific — aimed at deterring aggression and maintaining strategic balance in East Asia. One of them is Yonaguni Island: Just 100 km from Taiwan, it now hosts permanent Japanese troops and advanced radar systems aimed at monitoring Chinese activity.

Japan is not aiming to provoke, but to prepare. In a region where the rules are shifting and tensions rising, it knows that relying solely on others is no longer enough. Especially when the U.S is isolating itself more and more.

The tense relationship between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President #zelenskiy has worsened, particularly due to a controversial mining deal. Trump labeled Zelensky a dictator, while Zelensky accused Trump of serving Russian disinformation. This tension escalated further with a meeting between U.S. and Russian officials in Saudi Arabia. The primary dispute began when Zelensky rejected a deal that would have given the U.S. priority access to Ukraine’s rich mineral resources.

#ukraine is rich in critical minerals such as titanium, lithium, and uranium. However, these resources remain largely untapped due to a lack of investment and geopolitical instability. The proposed deal would have granted U.S. companies significant control over these minerals. However, concerns about economic exploitation emerged. The deal collapsed because Zelensky opposed what he saw as unfair terms and did not receive sufficient security guarantees from the U.S. Trump took a pragmatic approach, linking U.S. support for Ukraine to access to these resources. Actual value of Ukraine’s mineral reserves is unknown at the moment.

While these disputes unfold, it is crucial to examine why Russia has historically been an even worse "partner" for Ukraine. Let's have a look at their troubled past reveals deep-rooted tensions.

In the 1930s, Soviet leader Joseph Stalin implemented forced collectivization in Ukraine, leading to the catastrophic famine known as the Holodomor. Approximately 4-8 million Ukrainians died, and this event left a lasting trauma on the nation, contributing to deep-seated anti-Russian sentiment.

The fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 allowed Ukraine to declare its independence. However, the transition was tought with economic and political challenges. Ukraine also inherited a significant amount of the Soviet Union's nuclear arsenal. In 1994, Ukraine agreed to give up its nuclear weapons in exchange for security assurances from the US, UK, and Russia. This agreement, known as the Budapest Memorandum, pledged respect for Ukraine's territory.

Demonstrations are growing as symbols of the Assad regime are torn down. The rebels are now just 5 km from the presidential palace, posing a direct threat to the regime’s survival..

Once upon a time, Europe's defense was under the safe arms of the USA. There was always a big brother in case of emergencies. But now, while D. Trump is stepping onto the stage, it seems like Europe's peaceful dream is giving way to unrestful nights. Europe's leaders are whispering to each other: What if #Trump returns? What if he decides to withdraw from NATO?

It would not be a surprise if Russia tests Europe's borders one morning, demonstrating its force. In a world where Trump is president again, it would not surprise anyone if Russia, having already invaded Ukraine, takes courage from the disintegration of NATO and attacks Europe's weakest spots.

Europe had concerns even during the first Trump administration. Especially the allies who are inadequate in terms of defense budgets were the target of Trump's tense speeches directed at citizens who are taxpayers and directly funding Europe's defense. Nowadays, most of the European armies are struggling with insufficient military personnel, so the fear that NATO is becoming a "paper tiger" is growing.

The re-election of Trump brings the possibility of a USA withdrawal from NATO. This could make Europe vulnerable to threats like Russia. Although Russia's occupation has led NATO members to increase their military budgets, this increase has been limited to the eastern allies. Most of the Western European countries prioritize social spending over defense expenditures.

As #NATO's largest contributor, the United States remains the keystone of the alliance's balance. Europe's military capacity and technological infrastructure are grossly inadequate compared to that of the United States. A potential Trump withdrawal would exacerbate the defense gap Europe faces. In particular, the lack of US troops and advanced defense technologies could expose Europe to major defense risks.

European armies are facing serious problems in terms of recruitment and modernization. Most countries are struggling to find enough human resources to renew and strengthen their armies. This raises big questions about whether Europe has the military structure to defend itself without US support.

From the Persian Empire to Alexander the Great, from Mongol invasions to the Great Game between the British and Russian empires, many have sought to dominate these lands. In the latter half of the 20th century, Afghanistan found itself in the cold climate of the Cold War.

The Soviet invasion in 1979 marked a significant turning point in modern Afghan history. This occupation not only devastated the country's infrastructure but also displaced millions, turning many Afghans into refugees. The Afghan mujahideen, backed by the United States and other Western countries, resisted the Soviet forces, leading to a lasting proxy war. Eventually, the Soviet Union withdrew, but Afghanistan was left in a state of civil war and instability.

In 1996, the Taliban emerged on the political scene and took control of Kabul and much of the country. With a radical Islamist ideology, the Taliban imposed harsh and repressive policies, particularly on women, drawing widespread international condemnation. The 9/11 attacks in 2001, orchestrated by Al-Qaeda who were sheltered by the Taliban, triggered the US-led invasion of Afghanistan.

The US invasion toppled the Taliban regime and established a Western-backed government. However, despite billions of dollars in aid and significant military support, stability remained fragile. In 2021, following the withdrawal of US and NATO forces, the Taliban rapidly regained control, causing another humanitarian crisis and a wave of refugees.

Since regaining control, the Taliban has been actively attempting to break its diplomatic isolation. This includes improve international relations through security, economic, and humanitarian engagement. Despite these efforts, severe human rights abuses continue under the Taliban regime, particularly oppressive policies against women and minorities

Let's look at the Russian President Vladimir Putin's prolonged rule and military expansion into Ukraine. Serving since 1999, Putin is projected to continue his leadership until at least 2030.

Political opponent Alexei #navalny has been removed, and Putin is preparing for a secondary military campaign in Ukraine, mobilizing an additional 300,000 soldiers. The Russian military budget for 2023 has increased by 29% compared to the previous year, propelling it to the position of the largest military spender in Europe.

Russia, transitioning to a war economy, is generating 1,500 new tanks annually - a figure that outstrips the combined total of all #NATO and European nations. The country is also planned to produce around 4.5 million tonnes of ammunition in 2024, again dwarfing the combined output of NATO and European countries. Besides, Russia is fabricating approximately 100 long-range missiles and significantly bolstering its domestic munitions production.

Ukraine, finding it challenging to match the military might of Russia, has altered its mandatory military service law and reduced the age requirement for conscription from 27 to 25.

This is in preparation for the anticipated large-scale conflict expected to unfold by 2024. Russia aims to control territories in Ukraine, specifically in the regions of Donetsk, Donbas, and Zaporizhia. These regions are considered integral parts of Russia according to Putin's own ideas, regardless of international law.

Furthermore, a leaked 17-page strategic document suggests that Russia intends to fully integrate Belarus into Russia by 2030. This document was obtained and published by an international journalist team. The situation in Belarus, which already has Russian military bases on its territory, is currently undergoing significant political unrest, with protests against the regime and the regime becoming increasingly isolated from the international community. To remain in power, the Belarusian regime has become heavily reliant on Russia.

Today we are going to discuss the controversial topic of how Israel manages to receive unconditional support from the United States despite human rights violations in Gaza. The answer lies in the power of the Israel lobby.
The lobby is not just a single organization but a network of groups, including the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and various pro-Israeli organizations. These groups lobby for policies favorable to Israel, and their influence is significant enough to override the will of the American people.

There are various pro-Israeli groups and individuals in the U.S. who advocate for Israel's benefit and shape U.S. foreign policy accordingly. The economic and military aid that the U.S. provides to Israel, is just enormous. All the taxpayers in the U.S are also paying for Israel’s military equipment, units etc.

USA maintains a consistently pro-Israeli stance in international organizations, often blocking resolutions unfavorable to Israel.

This unconditional support is not based on democratic principles, as Israel is not a true democracy, but rather an apartheid regime. Despite these criticisms, America's foreign policy is heavily focused on Israel, and that pro-Israel lobbies, such as AIPAC, play a significant role in financing and promoting their preferred political agendas in Congress and the Senate.

Argentina needs to increase exports and attract foreign investment.

The economic instability in Argentina and the election of a radical figure named Javier #milei , who promised to close the Central Bank and convert the peso to the dollar. Milei’s election was important because he represented a neoliberal ideology, which is against printing money and increasing government spending as they are increasing inflation.

Argentina's economy was characterized by high levels of inflation, which was worsened by the coronavirus pandemic. Despite these challenges, Argentina experienced rapid economic growth after the pandemic, but its previous economic instability left it with enormous debt and a weakened economy.

Argentina also experienced a series of military coups and unstable governments, including that of Juan Perón, who nationalized industries and implemented social welfare programs. Argentina's economy was run by a government that constantly opens its pockets to keep the economy afloat. Perón's policies led to inflation and economic instability, which persisted throughout the 20th century by his sucsessors.

We know that most of the time, over-armament led to wars. Unfortunately the struggle between Taiwan and China will prove it again.

Taiwan requested to purchase 12 MH-60R Seahawk helicopters from the United States in 2015 to defend themselves against a potential invasion from China. However, the deal collapsed in 2022 when the US refused to respond to the request and discouraged Taiwan from buying them. The US has become concerned about Taiwan's defense strategy and believes that Taiwan needs to do more to address this with urgency.

The dispute between China and Taiwan began in 1927 during the Chinese Civil War, with both sides claiming to be the legitimate government of Taiwan and the mainland. The United States originally sided with the nationalists and promised to defend Taiwan if China invaded. However, in 1979, the US recognized China as the legitimate government and withdrew its troops from Taiwan, only promising to maintain trade and cultural relations. Taiwan assumed that the US would not come to its defense and instead relied on the promise to sell them the weapons they needed.

In the 80’s and 90’s, Taiwan purchased advanced weapons from the US, giving them an advantage against a possible Chinese invasion. However, China changed its strategy, and the US became concerned about Taiwan's ability to withstand an attack.

China has significantly grown its military capabilities, outspending Taiwan and developing advanced weaponry in order to match Taiwan's American-made arsenal. China's military buildup includes advanced fighters, submarines, and ballistic missiles specifically designed to prepare for Taiwan.

Taiwan has developed the concept of the "porcupine strategy," proposed by an American military expert, which suggests that Taiwan should focus on acquiring large quantities of small, mobile, and inexpensive weapons to make itself difficult to conquer. The strategy aims to create doubt and uncertainty in the minds of Chinese military leaders, making it less likely for them to achieve their objectives.

How should we perceive growing anti-immigrants in Sweden?

The large refugee population Sweden has received has impacted Sweden in social, political and cultural way.
Sweden’s Minister of Immigration and Integration Anders Ygeman, once said “ We cannot permit that non-scandinavians have the majority in particular regions.”

Sweden was one of the most refugee-accepting countries in 2015 refugee crisis after Türkiye and Germany;

It was seem like a small amount especially when we compare with Türkiye’s(Over 3 million). But it was enough to shake Sweeden’s society.

Sweden was criticizing other EU countries for “ building walls” back then. Nowadays Sweden politics are in the brink of rightist ways and refugees are no longer welcome.

Failed Integration Policy

Demographic data shows that there are 2.75 million people of foreign origin and 2.09 million people born outside Sweden in the Swedish society of 10 million people.

Among the ethnic groups in the country, Syrians are the largest ethnic group in the country after Swedes.

This failure in integration has also affected the country's politics, leading to the instrumentalization of anti-immigrant sentiments by the far right. For example, the Sweden Democrats Party, which pursues nationalist and anti-immigrant policies, received 17.6 percent of the votes in the 2018 elections, while the ruling center-left Social Democrats Party, the oldest and largest party in the country, received the worst result in its history.

On June 8, 1967, the USS Liberty Incident was a tragedy between an American and an Israeli soldier. The USS Liberty (AGTR-5), an American intelligence ship operating in the Mediterranean Sea at the time, was in the midst of escalating tensions between Israel and Arab countries.

On the day of the incident, the attack was carried out by the #Israeli Air Force, which misidentified the American ship as an Egyptian warship. At the time of the incident, the ship was spotted by Israeli aircraft and attacked. Although there are various reports on the type of aircraft used by Israel in the attack, it is generally stated that Mirage III or Mystère IV fighter jets were used.

As a result of the attack, the USS Liberty was badly damaged, 34 American sailors were killed and 171 were injured. In the aftermath of this incident, the United States took diplomatic action against Israel. However, it was important to carry out a rigorous investigation to understand the causes and the manner in which it happened.

Hundreds of international companies have decided to withdraw from Russia following the Russian invasion of #Ukraine. Many others, however, have chosen to stay, despite all the sanctions and pressure exerted by the Western bloc.

Some of the remaining companies claim that the Kremlin has tied their hands, while others cite revenue concerns - or even humanitarianism - as their reason for staying.

When the first bombs began to fall on Ukraine in February 2022, global companies with operations in Russia had to choose a side: Stay or Go. In the midst of a brutal war with tens of thousands of civilian casualties and growing international sanctions and condemnation of Russia, companies risked serious reputational damage by staying put.

Some decided to withdraw immediately; some took their time; some decided to stay.

#McDonald's, which symbolised the entry of Western culture into Russia after the Cold War, closed its shop after 32 years. Oil giant BP decided to withdraw from the country three days after the war started. Major brands from various sectors such as Apple, Netflix, H&M, Airbnb and PayPal boycotted the invasion of Russia and withdrew from the country's market.
On the other hand, the Netherlands-based brewer Heineken sold its operations in Russia to Russia-based Arnest Group for a symbolic 1 euro. French car manufacturer Renault sold its factories for a symbolic price of one rouble.

However, a year and a half after the start of the war, hundreds of companies are still doing business in Russia. Faced with accusations that they helped finance the war in Ukraine, some companies say they stay because their customers need them.

Among them is #Auchan, one of France's largest supermarket chains, which is keeping over 200 stores open in Russia. Auchan denies allegations of financing the war, but says it will remain in Russia and Ukraine where it has stores to "meet the basic food needs of the civilian population".

The Institute of the Kiev School of Economics estimates that around 300 companies have left Russia since the war began, while 1400 companies are still doing "some" business inside the country.

Despite their rich underground resources, many African countries remain politically unstable and economic collapse but there was a “Dark Horse” among them. Let’s look at how Botswana achived such an exceptional economic development.

Botswana, a South African country, is one of the examples that can change the perception of instability and underdevelopment towards the African continent. While Botswana was among the poorest countries in Africa at the time of its independence, it entered a period of rapid economic growth with the discovery of diamond mines in 1967. Thanks to sustainable development-based policies, Botswana has become the fastest growing economy in the world and has been characterised as "a success story in Africa".

Botswana's first President, Sir Seretse Khama, was a prominent leader when the country gained independence and played an important role in stabilising the country. However, Botswana's economic success is the result of long-term policies, well-managed resources and social consensus, not just a single leader. Furthermore, Botswana's leaders have focused on effectively managing the country's natural resources (such as diamonds), ensuring that revenues are channelled towards public services and poverty alleviation.

In addition to economic growth, political stability has also been achieved in the country. As a matter of fact, Botswana is one of the rare #African countries without military coup experience.

Botswana performed three things properly:

1-Resource Management: Botswana manages its diamond and other natural resources effectively. Part of the diamond revenue is channelled into long-term investment funds, creating a source of savings for future generations.

2-Anti-Corruption: Botswana has taken measures to limit corruption and ensure open government. This provides a stable environment for business.

3-Education and Health: Botswana makes significant investments in education and health care. The education system is well developed and the education level of the population is high. Health services play a major role in protecting the health of the population.

30 October 1918

The powder smell is still in the air. The 600-year-old empire had fought its last great war. The Istanbul government had finally signed the Armistice of #Mudros even if they did not want to, which would have led the occupation forces to invade every single centimeter of the country.

While the first steps were being taken in the port of Mudros on a Greek island to imprison the Turks in their homeland, a successful Ottoman colonel had started to plan for the liberation of his whole nation.
The journey to independence began on May 19, 1919.

The situation was dire, with foreign powers occupying parts of Anatolia and Istanbul, the empire's capital. In the midst of this chaos, Mustafa Kemal emerged as a charismatic and resolute leader to unite all the irregular resistance units in the country.

The Battle of Sakarya, in which a great victory was achieved against the #occupation forces, was one of the most important turning points in the Turkish army's struggle for independence. This victory strengthened the resistance of the Turkish nation.

The war of independence ended when the last occupying forces fled across the Aegean Sea. During the Turkish War of Independence, the Turkish delegation successfully negotiated at the Lausanne Conference. The victories on the ground gained meaning at the diplomatic table. The borders and independence of the new Turkish state were finally recognized in #1923.

All of this happened in an epic way under incredible circumstances. The Turkish armies were victorious despite lacking equipment, inadequate logistics and supply lines. It was, without doubt, a struggle that only a nation of believers could wage.

Making a press statement in China, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that they inspected 2 military aircraft carriers sent by the US in support of Israel. Stating that #Mig-31 fighter jets are constantly patrolling in the Black Sea airspace, Putin said, "The ships in the Mediterranean are within our range.

But what does it mean? “Deterrence” is back.

Kinzhal missiles are hypersonic missiles developed by Russia and mounted under strategic air carriers. The name means "dagger" in Russian. It has been developed to pierce NATO’s air defense. These missiles were officially introduced by Russia in 2018 and offer a fast, maneuverable hypersonic strike capability. Russia is using these against Ukraine actively.

Kinzhal missiles are hypersonic missiles that can fly at speeds above Mach 10 (about 12,350 km/h or 7673 mph). This speed is much faster than conventional missiles and allows them to reach their targets in a very short time.

Official information on the exact range of Kinzhal missiles is limited, but is generally estimated to be between 2,000 km and 2,500 km. This gives the missiles the ability to quickly reach distant targets.

Kinzhal missiles have a strategic role and can be used against sea-based and land-based targets. Their ability to strike targets quickly and their maneuverability make it difficult to penetrate enemy air defenses.

#Nuclear Capability:Kinzhal missiles can be equipped with both nuclear and conventional warheads. This gives them the flexibility to be used against different types of targets.

#israel is pulling itself together after the shock attack of H*mas last week. Israel forces have responded harshly with deadly bombardment and artillery shots.

However, Israel is preparing to strike the real blow with the ground operation.

Main Objective: Advance through Gaza and destroy H*mas administration.

Israel's land forces are gathering at Gaza's north border with 300+ tanks and many artillery units. There is no need to mention fighter jets, UAV drones, or bombarding aircraft that Israel Air Forces have.

No war can succeed without a ground attack, and Israel is also aware of this.

Israel has been one of the leading military powers in the region, but the question is: Are Israeli forces going to get results in a densely populated residential area? You should have seen that Gaza's streets are very narrow and don't let any occupational force through with ease.

As I mentioned before, Israel has warned the people who are living in the north of Gaza to ''move'' towards the south, but a significant number of the people rejected it, even though they lost their houses and families.

Ground operations through residential areas have always been tough. This time, Israel is going to try, and who will greet them? It could be no one.

H*mas has been carving complicated undersurface tunnels since 2002, and these tunnels add a extra layer of obscurity to this battle.

As if this wasn't enough, H*mas has captured dozens of distinguished soldiers of Israel and dispersed them all around the Gaza strip.

Probably the only information that Israel Intelligence knows about the tunnels is their direction. Nobody knows the sub-tunnels or where they actually extend. H*mas will use these tunnels to not only defend but also counterattack. We have seen it in the past decade where H*mas militas entrapped Israeli soldiers in Israeli land.

Why were tunnels built?

After many rebels from Palestine, Israel decided to contain the Gaza Strip with high walls. There are just 2 border gates: the north, the Israel-Gaza border, and the south, the Refah-Egypt border.

Well, honestly I am sick of it. I don’t want to be a pessimist about this, but what I am seeing of this conflict is constant warfare. It is a doomed loop that will last forever.

There are so many wrongs and so little mercy in a conflict zone.. Israel has declared that they are going to fight against Hamas, disregarding international law of war. This means Israeli forces ignore all the humanitarian principles when it comes to destroying the enemy.

About 1 million people will be displaced-again-
While I am writing these lines, 70 people have died as they moved south due to bombarding of the Israel Air Forces. Yes I know many Israeli civilians have lost their lives because of terrorist attacks from Hamas but it doesn’t change anything. On the other hand, Israel is facing the biggest civil casualties since the Holocaust.
#Hamas doesn't have a formal structure, not at state-level. On the other hand, Israel is a state which acts like organizations like Hamas or even worse.

Why does #Israel retaliate like that? Why was it so disproportionate all the time? The answer lies under the Israel security doctrine(ISD), which we will talk about a lot in the upcoming weeks.

One of these ISD’s aspects is the disproportionate response policy.

A disproportionate response in military terms refers to a response or retaliation that is considered to be excessive or disproportionate to the threat or provocation that triggered it. It means using more force, resources, or military power than what is deemed necessary to counteract a particular threat or situation. The principle of proportionality is an important aspect of international humanitarian law (IHL) and the laws of armed conflict. According to this principle, military actions should not exceed what is necessary to achieve a legitimate military objective. The use of force should be proportional to the threat faced. Disproportionate responses are considered to be violations of IHL and can result in accusations of war crimes.

Anyway, everything is ruined and all the international actors have to start from scratch on this matter. I condemn terrorism in every aspect. Peace be upon you.

“There are 89 ships awaiting in the #panamacanal since September 28th. The canal’s impact on world trade is hundreds of billions of dollars. This traffic jam I’ve mentioned is triggered by the lowest water level in the history of the canal.

Panama Canal needs large amounts of water to feed its locking system. Mainly rainwater from Gatun Lake. This system uses about 76 Olympic pools of water to move each ship through the canal.

The administration of the Panama Canal(ACP) has started to impose restrictions on vessels such as the number of daily transits and maximum weight and these restrictions will be active until the end of the year..

However, the biggest problem of this congestion is related mostly to the energy and petroleum products that are the main commodities transported along the canal. The canal has become the main route of transition of these from eastern coasts of America to China, India, Japan etc. Many companies such as Cheniere Energy(natural gas company in Houston) prefer to skip the waiting time and instead choose to travel around Cape Horn, which can add days of transit time.

Other container ships choose the Panama Canal Railway to transport its commodities to the other side of the canal. Unfortunately, these delays affect costs negatively and this can trigger an inflation domino effect.

This situation is being compared with the 2021 Suez Canal crisis when a large container ship sat on the ground for 6 days, which cost 10 billion dollars each day.
Droughts and other climate distortions push hard global supply chains day by day.
Authorities can decrease daily transit numbers even more, which can cause abortion of #freight programs.

3-# As global warming causes the Arctic ice to recede, there has been growing interest in the Northern Sea Route (NSR). This route connects Europe to Asia along the northern coast of Russia. In recent years, the reduction in ice cover during the summer months has made this route more accessible, potentially reducing maritime transit times from 40 days to 20 days approximately, for instance Singapore-Rotterdam route.
